How does Stay Active keep my Mac awake?
While a session runs it holds Apple's standard power assertions (the same mechanism Apple's caffeinate tool uses) and tells macOS you're active every 30 seconds. It never moves the mouse or presses keys.
Will my AI agent, build or download keep running while I'm away?
Yes. While a session is on, your Mac won't sleep on its own, so apps and background jobs keep running and the screen won't lock — as long as the lid stays open and you don't put the Mac to sleep yourself. Choose ∞ to keep it awake until you turn it off.
My Mac still went to sleep when I closed the lid
That's macOS: closing a MacBook's lid puts it to sleep unless it's connected to power and an external display, and choosing Apple menu ▸ Sleep always sleeps it. Stay Active prevents idle sleep — for long jobs, keep the lid open. The session continues when your Mac wakes.
I put my display to sleep and it stayed dark
Also by design. Stay Active keeps your Mac itself awake but won't turn a display back on that you put to sleep yourself.
What does the battery guard do?
In Settings ▸ Battery you can choose a battery level (5–30%) at which a running session turns off on its own, and optionally pause sessions whenever you unplug — they resume on AC power.
How do I change or remove the keyboard shortcut?
Open Settings (⌘,) ▸ Shortcut and record a new one, or clear it.
How do I hide the menu bar icon?
Settings ▸ Startup ▸ turn off Show in menu bar.
How do the free trial and the unlock work?
Every feature is free for 14 days after you start the trial. After that, keeping your Mac awake needs the one-time unlock — there's no subscription and nothing is charged automatically. Bought it before? Use Restore Purchases in the unlock sheet or in Settings ▸ Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account.
